Proactive Humane Programs for  Abandoned Animals

About NESAA

"Never believe that animals suffer less than man.  Pain is the same for them that it is for us,  even worse,
 because they cannot help themselves."

               -Dr. Louis J. Calmuti

The New England Society for Abandoned Animals is a Massachusetts, 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, federal and state approved with Attorney General certification.  We are a  "no-kill" humane organization.  Proud member of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition (http://www.massanimalcoalition.org).

NESAA is staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to the implementation of "no-kill" humane programs to end the suffering and abuse of homeless and abandoned pets. Our services include low-cost spay/neuter assistance; in partnership with several generous Cape veterinarians, maintenance of feral colonies (feral meaning abandoned cats with little human contact), and educational services.

NESAA's Current Objectives and Future Goals: (with the help of donations and more dedicated volunteers)

  • Provide an aggressive, compassionate outreach program to low-income communities for spay/neuter and vaccination, to prevent future tragedy.
  • Build a holistic center that will offer:
      • low-cost spay/neuter vaccination clinic
      • proactive adoption programs
      • a place of education and inspiration for individuals, families, and communities with hopes to elevate the value of all animals and make significant changes in animal welfare.
  • To create a sanctuary, safe haven for cats that cannot be returned to dangerous areas.  This sanctuary will also provide a safe haven for animals with chronic medical conditions, that would require constant medical care.
  • Senior and disabled programs:
      • NESAA hopes to implement programs to assist seniors with the care of their animal friends.  It is well documented that seniors that have animal companions have decreased health problems and provide seniors with companionship that is immeasurable to their emotional well-being.
      • NESSA is committed to assuring the success of these relationships by providing close communications and assistance where needed.
  • Hospice, which we provide now, but we are always in need of more foster homes:
      • to provide all animals the highest level of medical care, love, comfort and dignity, should the prognosis be grave.
      • NESSA will NEVER euthanize for space or cost issues.  NESAA's core belief is every creature is worthy of the highest level of care that can be provided at all stages of life.
  • Give support, education & solutions that can curtail possible surrendering or abandonment of animal friends
      • comprehensive educational resources
      • long term follow-up for adoptions to assure its success
      • all animal friends, prior to adoption, will be spayed or neutered,"no exceptions" will be made, due to our core belief that overpopulation is a root cause of suffering, death and abandonedment of animal friends.
